I am a qualified, professional traveling piano teacher, flute teacher, and classically trained musician with a BA in flute performance from the University of California, Los Angeles and an MM in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from George Mason University.  Aside from my extensive educational background, I have attended several piano festivals where I received partial and full tuition scholarships, including Brevard Music Center and Las Vegas Music Festival.  I have participated in master classes with James Giles, Mykola Suk and Vladimir Feltsman.  I have attended numerous piano and flute workshops to enhance my teaching skills and received a $900 Teacher Enrichment Grant from the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) in 2004.  The most recent music festival I attended was the prestigious SUNY (State University of New York)-New Paltz Piano Festival in 2009, where I received lessons from Vladimir Feltsman, Susan Starr and Robert Roux.

I provide beginner piano lessons, classical piano lessons, kids piano lessons, music classes for kids, intermediate piano lessons and advanced piano lessons in your home in Ashburn (20147, 20148) Ashburn Farm, Ashburn Village, Broadlands, Belmont, Belmont Ridge, Belmont Hunt, Belmont Chase, Belmont Greene, Belmont Meadows, Loudoun Valley, Loudoun Valley Estates, Leesburg (20175, 20176), Lansdowne, Potomac Falls (20165), and Great Falls (22066), VA .  Additionally, I provide keyboard classes for kids in Ashburn (20147, 20148), Lansdowne, Leesburg (20175, 20176) and Potomac Falls, VA (20165).  Piano students must possess a digital piano with 88 weighted keys and at least two pedals.
Music lessons take place in a stress-free environment -- your home-where you can relax and focus.

Piano students who join Love's Music Lessons will learn to play with confidence and speed.  Ms. Love is a patient, friendly and caring piano teacher who enjoys teaching children and adults.  I can teach all ages and levels, especially a young beginner.  I can teach students as young as 4 1/2 years old provided that the parents are actively involved in the learning process.  Parents must be willing to sit with the younger beginner while they practice for the first six months of piano lessons.

Ms. Love emphasizes the Russian school of piano playing and utilizes repertoire and technique materials by Peskanov and the Russian School of Piano Playing.  Emphasis is placed on hand and wrist position, developing firm fingertips, maintaining a relaxed wrist and using the wrists to improve technical facility.  Rotation of the wrists is of utmost importance in playing Beethoven, Haydn, and Mozart piano sonatas.  Improper piano technique such as flat fingers and hands that are not level with the keys can lead to injuries later in life and slow down a beginner's progress.

Piano lessons incorporate learning to read music in bass, treble and alto clef, understanding rhythmic values and notations, and developing proper eye, finger, and hand coordination. Scales and technical exercises are assigned on a weekly basis to strengthen the fingers. Etudes by Czerny, Moszkowski, and Chopin are assigned for the more technically advanced player.

Ms. Love primarily focuses on classical piano repertoire as this develops the skills to play any genre of music beautifully.  Piano students learn major and minor scales, and the corresponding chord progressions and cadences, which are highlighted in classical, jazz, and popular music. Music theory, ear training, sight-reading, and transposition are provided for intermediate to advanced-level students who take a forty-five minute lesson.

Lesson Fees are not based upon a per session charge. Tuition is based upon a flat monthly rate that includes books, materials, travel time, lesson time, the cost for gas and car maintenance fees, and the fee for one recital FOR THE TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN THE HOUSEHOLD TAKING LESSONS. Additional recitals beyond one incur an additional fee.

LESSON FEES ARE ALSO BASED UPON THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT MS. LOVE RESERVES FOR YOU.  IF YOU HAVE TWO STUDENTS TAKING TWO 30-MINUTE LESSONS, YOU PAY THE HOURLY RATE. IF YOU HAVE TWO STUDENTS TAKING A 45-MINUTE AND 30-MINUTE LESSON, YOU WOULD PAY THE 75-MINUTE RATE. THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE FIRST STUDENT IS 30-MINUTES.
