Flute lessons are available in Sterling, Potomac Falls (20165), Ashburn (20147, 20148), Ashburn Farm, Ashburn Village, Broadlands, Brambleton, Belmont Ridge, Belmont Chase, Belmont Greene, Belmont Meadows, Belmont Hunt, Loudoun Valley Estates, Potomac Falls, Countryside, Leesburg (20175, 20176), The Preserve at Evergreen, Evergreen Preserve, Evergreen Mills and Great Falls (22066), VA.
Flute lessons will focus on developing a pure sound that is rich in harmonics and uses the support of your diaphragm. Importance will be placed on breathing techniques as this will improve a flautist's sound and control. Flute lessons incorporate learning two and three octave scales in all the major and minor keys, dominant and diminished arpeggios, and the modal scales. Etudes with scale patterns, arpeggios and accidentals are assigned on a weekly basis to develop sight-reading skills. Prospective students will play flute repertoire spanning from Telemann and Bach to Debussy, Poulenc, and Hindemith. A special emphasis will be placed on french conservatory repertoire. Students will also learn to practice with a chromatic tuner, so that the high, middle and low range of the flute are always in tune.
Flute students in middle school and high school will be encouraged to audition for District Band in Loudoun County. Students who participate in Solo and Ensemble festival in Loudoun County will have the opportunity to learn a solo with piano accompaniment and receive constructive feedback from adjudicators in their specific instrument. Loudoun County Solo and Ensemble Festival will enrich and enlighten your child's musical experience. *** Flute students also have the added benefit of a teacher who is a piano accompanist and can provide piano accompanist services at a reduced rate for Loudoun County Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Lessons are given in increments of 30, 45 minutes or one hour. Students will be required to participate in one studio recital during the year. Additionally, there are a number of festivals, competitions, and scholarships available through my membership in MTNA, VMTA, NVMTA, FLMF and NFMC.
Please note****A trial lesson is required before enrolling in flute lessons. It is a formal flute lesson which involves student and teacher interaction. The cost for a trial lesson is $40 for a 30-minute lesson, $45 for a 45-minute lesson and $55 for a 60-minute lesson.
