Piano lessons focus on developing an artistic, creative and well-rounded musician.  The most important areas that I focus on are technique (adopted from the Russian school of piano playing), rhythm, sound and phrasing.  Each lesson is tailored to fit the individual needs of the student. I use a variety of method, technique and repertoire books. I primarily teach classical repertoire, although some of my students have interest in playing jazz, blues and church hymns.  The following areas will be highlighted during piano lessons:

Sight-Reading (I teach piano students how to read the notes.  Classical piano music is not organized in positions, i.e., G-position, A- position, etc.  Classical music typically follows a set harmonic and melodic structure. Reading notes and understanding the harmonic and melodic structure of a piece is key in learning classical piano music.

Classical Repertoire (Students will learn and perform repertoire by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninov, Schumann, Prokofiev, Kabalevsky and a multitude of other composers.

Technique-(Scales, Chords, Cadences, Arpeggios and Broken Chords (I have adopted techniques from the Russian school of piano playing and Peskanov)

Etudes by Czerny, Moszkowski, Streabogg, Burgmuller and Chopin (Etudes serve to strengthen the fingers, enhance technical facility on the piano and sharpen sight-reading skills)

Pedaling (Learning to coordinate pedaling to preserve the rhythmic and stylistic nuances of a phrase.  This is especially important in Beethoven's classical sonatas.)

Sound (Learning to use the entire upper, lower body and arms to develop a deep sound)

Practicing with the metronome.  This is key in learning new repertoire.  Ms. Love will focus on how to subdivide and practice difficult technical passages.

Theory, Ear Training and Harmony

I am always seeking serious students who share my passion for music and are committed to practicing.  Music takes hard work and patience, but should also be a fun and rewarding experience. I am currently accepting students for the upcoming academic year (August 27, 2012-June 30, 2013). Lessons are either 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes. Additionally, I am experienced in preparing advanced students for local and state competitions, and entrance auditions for music schools. For more information and rates view the tuition page.

Performance of Rodion Shchedrin's, "Im Stile von Albeniz." The performance took place at the Steinway Recital Hall in Tyson's Corner on May 1, 2011. This successful recital was a result of taking kids piano lessons and advanced piano lessons from a qualified music teacher.
